Andamans
As an archipelago of tropical islands, Andaman & Nicobar Islands are blessed with some of the most beautiful & unspoilt beaches in the world. Of the approximately 600 islands, only 9 are open to foreign tourists, all of which are in Andamans. Port Blair is the capital of the Islands and is contains the only civil airport & harbour for the archipelago.

Havelock Island

Day Trip to Local beaches in Port Blair
Corbyn's Cove (7kms), Ross Island, North Bay at the foothills of Mount Harriet, and Chidiyatapu (26kms) at the southern-most tip of South Andaman, are nature lovers delights.
Baratang Mud Volcano and Lime Stone Caves
At Baratang you can see Mud Volcano which is about 4 km away from the jetty. The main attractions here are beach at Baratang Island, the Limestone caves, mud volcanoes and the Parrot Island
Among the museums are the Anthropological Museum, Forest Museum, Fisheries Museum, Zoological Survey of India Museum, and the Naval Marine Museum Samudrika with its display of corals, fishes, etc. The Chatham Saw Mill one of the oldest mills in Asia is a historical site.
Outside Port Blair there are many islands and beaches such as Karmatang Beach (12kms), Havelock Island (54 kms), Rangat Island (170 kms), Cutbert Bay beach, a turtle nesting ground, Avis Islands, and Mayabunder (70 kms).
There is ample scope for water sports activities like snorkelling (especially around the volcanic Cinque Island), scuba diving (Snake Island), fishing, harbour cruises (Chatham Island, Viper Island, etc).

Getting into Andamans
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are located in the Bay of Bengal about 1400Km from mainland India. If you plan to arrive by sea, you'll need to arrange your permit before arrival, either in Chennai or when applying for your India Visa. Non-Indians require a Restricted Area Permit to visit the islands which can be obtained on arrival at Port Blair Airport. Visitors usually receive a 30-day permit.
Indian nationals do not require a permit for the Andamans.

By Sea:
Regular passenger ship services are available from Chennai, Kolkata & Vizag & back. There are three to four sailing's every month from Calcutta and Chennai to Port Blair and vice-versa. There is a sailing from Visakhapatnam once in a month. The voyage takes about three days and the ship normally berth at Port Blair for about two days.
